Purpose

This Community Health Ambassador Program is designed to support local residents in developing the skills to effectively advocate for the health and well being of themselves and their communities, toward advancing equitable health outcomes in New Mexico's underserved communities. By honoring the value of culture, tradition, human relationships, lived experience, and community strengths, this program fosters collective wellbeing, resilience, and belonging.

Program Overview

Community Health Ambassadors serve as trusted liaisons between their communities and partnering organizations. They help identify community health needs, share resources, amplify community voices, and support local healing through building health awareness, advocacy, storytelling, and engagement.

This initiative is grounded in the belief that healthcare is a human right and that all policies influence community health and wellbeing. This program recognizes that honoring community strengths, resilience, and wisdom is essential in supporting participants as they grow into leaders who can meaningfully impact the health of their communities. As Ambassadors, participants will engage in critical conversations and actions that reflect the priorities and lived experiences of their communities, creating pathways for holistic generative change.
